In 2019, STEC was the third most commonly reported zoonosis in the EU/EEA after campylobacteriosis and salmonellosis. We still see an increase in confirmed cases in Europe and elsewhere.
Lately, news have described an episode of food intoxication in France caused by an E. coli O26. So far, 30 cases of HUS infections have been declared.
CHROMagar™ have asked the French Enteric Reference Center, who received the strains from this intoxication investigation, to plate them in our CHROMagar™ STEC. All the strains grew well, with the expected aspect, as shown in the picture.
CHROMagar™ STEC is with no doubt a very unique tool to test for the presence of these bugs, particularly in very complex matrices.
